10 ways you need to invest into yourself

"You are your BIGGEST Investment."
Picture
When you think about investing into yourself, what comes to mind? Well, investing isn't always about money. It could mean you take time and effort to make something better.

More recently I've realized that all the productive habits I once had are all but things of the past. In fact I almost feel like I've lost a little bit of myself when I think back.

Sometimes life gets in the way, and changes start to sink in. Learning to adapt to changes and finding small ways get back on track takes time. But those small steps can make a huge difference in the long run.

Here are 10 ways I am investing in myself!

Journaling

I have several different journals for several different things. But how can journaling help you invest in yourself?

Find guided self-prompts on google. They can be really helpful when dealing with depression or anxiety. It can be healing to write out thoughts. It can self-soothe. Or it can even take your mind off of things. Regardless of why you do it, in the end you learn more about yourself while journaling.

"The more you understand yourself, the more you'll understand the world."

MAKE TIME FOR EXERCISE

This may seem like an obvious one but where you are a year from now is a reflection of the choices you are making now. And exercising can be good for the mind and body.

For example, imagine if your "Fitness" goal was to lose weight, or gain muscle. What would happen if you dedicated just 6 months to giving it your all. No shortcuts, no half-hearted efforts. What difference would there be in 6 months? How different would you feel? Would you look any different?

The honest answer is YES. You would in fact see a change. Either in how you look or how you feel.

Invest in your health.

Do not be pressured by beauty standards. And make sure to do things safely. But creating habits with exercise now, can help your health in the future. Even small habits.

PODCASTS/ SPEECHES

There are plenty of good podcast out there that match what you're most interested in. I personally love listening to some podcast just to understand different perspectives or different trending topics. But something that I've recently picked up are motivational speeches. Especially when exercising.

Have you ever had someone move you emotionally to work hard and do the best you can do? Well imagine hearing words like that while you're out exercising! It has stepped up my workouts! I literally just type in youtube "Gym Motivation speech music" And Bam. Those top few results are truly inspiring!

Regardless of what you choose, you want it to inspire you. Sometimes that little inspiration can push us to go the extra mile.

Books

To go along with podcast and speeches, find things that stimulate your thinking. You can read a book that helps you learn, or helps you create habits. If you need a suggestion where to start, read "Atomic Habits. Tiny changes, remarkable results." And maybe you're not much of a reader. Thats where audible helps. When you're out driving, running errands, or doing chores..

CREATING A NIGHT/MORNING ROUTINE

Maybe you're starting to notice a pattern here.

The key is creating good habits. Waking up a little earlier to exercise, stretch, eat a healthy meal, or journal can really set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Or if you're more of a night time person, creating a routine to wind down and relax before bed can help you sleep significantly better.

EATING SUSTAINABLY

Intuitive eating. Something that is a little new for me. But actually listening to my body has changed my mood and energy. I'm starting to really pay attention to foods that give me energy, and foods that make me feel sluggish.

While this might seem like a obvious thing to do, I really never payed attention to this before until recently. For example, when you drink something with caffeine in the morning, do you notice you start to crash and feel really tired by the time you finish work? Or when you eat a heavy meal you get extremely sleepy maybe 30 minutes after finishing? Now your sleep schedule is off because you took an unexpected nap in the middle of the day.

Just like when you eat more lean and clean you feel more energized. Food plays a huge role in our energy and mood. Of course having balance is the key, but what eating habits could you change that future you would be happy for?

SETTING FINANCIAL GOALS

Maybe saving for a new car or house is a financial goal of yours. The longer you put off saving money, the longer you're waiting to reach this goal. Whatever it may be, just start. Start learning ways to budget now, so you are better off in the future. Set goals financially for your future because who else will?

WHAT YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH

If you surround yourself with negative things, you will always notice all the more negative. But if you surround yourself with positive things, you will see the more positive in life.

The way you speak to yourself would be the first things to start with. Stop saying you can't. Stop talking down on yourself.

Stop getting in your own way.

Surround yourself with positive people. Put sticky notes of positive quotes on your door to read before starting your day. Take out the alcohol or food that makes you feel lethargic and replace them with food that make you feel good. surround yourself with good people and good experiences.

List 10 negative things in your life either big or small, and then list realistic ways you can improve them. The key is to make small changes one by one. Now imagine 1 year from now you've improved all ten things. How much better would you feel?

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

"Don't limit your challenges. Challenge your limits"

Hard times can actually stimulate growth. So when you find yourself in a situation where you ask "Why is this happening to me" change it to "What can I learn from this?" Challenge your mind. Challenge your capability. Give yourself more credit. You can do amazing things.

And yes sometimes a challenge can be uncomfortable. But growth is uncomfortable. So push yourself to do better at something. If you pushed yourself to be more knowledgeable on a specific topic for an entire year, what would change? Well, you could certainly feel like an expert after giving an entire year to learning something new!

Self Journal Prompt: What are three ways you can challenge yourself for this year? And what are the realistic steps you need to take with each of those?

Start there!

"Inspired by the fear of being average"

NOT RELYING ONLY ON MOTIVATION

This is something that's embedded into my brain. Yes motivation is great when you have it, but if you rely solely on motivation to get anything done, how likely are you to stick to it? NOT LIKELY. Because unfortunately motivation comes and goes. But self-discipline is key.

What could you be more self- disciplined in?
